Counterpane Privacy Policy

Effective 8 November 2026

Counterpane is published by B7R LLC.

Counterpane has no account and does not identify you. It sends a small, anonymous set of usage events, and you can turn that off in the app menu.

What stays on your device

The game stores your run in progress, your score, your run history, your free-play allowance and the time of the next window, your appearance choice, and a local cache of whether you own the unlock. These live in the app’s own container. Deleting the app deletes them.

Anonymous telemetry

Counterpane sends anonymous product events through PostHog, a third-party analytics service, in its United States region. PostHog processes the events on our behalf.

The events describe how the game is used: launches, boards dealt and completed, use of hints, shuffles, and undo, when the free-play allowance runs out, the rest card, and the unlock flow. We use them to understand which parts of the game work, where players get stuck, and whether the free-play boundary and the one-time unlock are understood.

  • Not linked to you. There is no account, and events are tied only to a random identifier created when you install the app.
  • IP addresses are not stored, and geographic lookup is off.
  • No device fingerprint. Device identifiers, screen size, timezone, and network type are removed before an event is sent.
  • No session recording, no autocapture, no advertising, and no cross-app tracking. The events are not used for advertising and are not sold or shared with data brokers.
  • Events are retained for one month.

In App Store terms this is Usage Data — Product Interaction and Other Usage Data — used for analytics, not linked to you, and not used to track you.

You can turn telemetry off at any time under … → Share anonymous telemetry. Turning it off stops new events immediately. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device and stops any further telemetry; events already sent expire after one month.

What the app does not use

No account or login. No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health data, or advertising identifier. No notifications, leaderboards, or social features.

Motion

The app reads the phone’s orientation on the device to settle the tiles when the phone is resting on its side. That reading is not stored or transmitted.

Apple diagnostics

Apple may collect crash and diagnostic data if you choose to share it with developers in iOS settings. That collection is controlled by Apple and covered by Apple’s privacy policy, not this one.

Children

Counterpane has no account and does not collect names, email addresses, or any other personal information from anyone, including children. The anonymous usage counts described above are not tied to a person.
